Gutters questions, answered
How often should gutters be cleaned in Washington?
At least twice a year — after fall leaf drop and after spring fir-needle drop. Homes under evergreens may need quarterly cleaning, or micro-mesh gutter guards to cut cleaning to near zero.
Do I need 5-inch or 6-inch gutters?
Most Washington homes do fine with 5-inch seamless gutters, but large or steep roofs and homes that concentrate a lot of roof area into one valley benefit from 6-inch gutters with oversized downspouts. We size the system to your actual roof, not a default.
Should gutters be replaced with the roof?
If your gutters are aging, replacing them alongside a re-roof is efficient — the roof edge, drip flashing, and fascia are all accessible at once, and the new system is warrantied together.
